The B.C. Marine and Pile Driving Contractors Association was formed in 1997 as a result of the escalating injury rate experienced in the pile driving sector.  These injuries translated into an unprecedented base assessment rate of 24.67%.

The Association participated in the Worker's Compensation Board sponsored Heavy Construction Task Force.  The Talk Force's goal was to educate the employers as to the benefits of an effective safety program and the positive impact it can have on the overall operation of a contractor.  From improved morale of the workers to reduced cost of performing the work, a safety conscious operation is a valuable asset in today's construction industry. 

As a result of its involvement with the Task Force, the Association expanded its mandate and developed a coordinated safety program for the marine and pile driving industry.  Initially these initiatives included an Occupational Health and Safety Program, and Industry Safety Handbook, Safety Bulletins, Statistical Information, Claims Management and Site Safety Audits.  The Association is developing additional safety products that include:

The goal of the B.C. Marine and Pile Driving Contractors Association is to provide the necessary elements to ensure a member contractor will have the tools to provide the most effective Safety program.

To date the success of the B.C. Marine and Pile Driving Contractors Association can be measured by the reduction in the subclass assessment rate.  For 2006 the rate has been reduced to 5.52% and all member contractors are enjoying a positive experience rating.
